World Wetlands Day is celebrated annually on the 2nd of February. This year’s theme is “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future”. The day marks the anniversary of the signing of the Ramsar Convention in 1971, an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands.
Wetlands are vital ecosystems that provide numerous benefits, including biodiversity support, water purification, flood control, and climate regulation. Unfortunately, they are disappearing at an alarming rate due to pollution, unsustainable development, and climate change.
